Woman Who Faked Pregnancies to Deceive Former ‘Bachelor’ Star and Other Men Sentenced to Jail

A woman accused of faking pregnancies to deceive multiple men, including former The Bachelor star Clayton Echard, has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.

The case drew widespread attention because of the allegations involving Echard, a former lead on the popular ABC dating series. The controversy also raised questions about digital evidence, online relationships, and the legal consequences of making false claims that can seriously affect another person’s life.

Case Involved Former ‘Bachelor’ Star Clayton Echard

Echard, who starred in Season 26 of The Bachelor in 2022, became publicly connected to the case after a woman claimed she was pregnant with his child.

The dispute escalated as the pregnancy claims were challenged and the matter moved into the legal system. The case attracted significant media attention because of Echard’s reality television background and the unusual nature of the allegations.

The reported pattern involving other men also brought further scrutiny to the woman’s claims and the evidence presented during the proceedings.

Laura Owens Pleads Guilty to Four Felonies

The woman, identified as Laura Owens, pleaded guilty in August to four felony counts: two counts of fraudulent schemes and artifices, one count of perjury, and one count of taking the identity of another person.

Prosecutors said that between May 2023 and June 2024, Owens fabricated pregnancy evidence connected to her claims involving Echard. Investigators said she altered an ultrasound image, created a fake pregnancy video, and lied under oath during civil paternity proceedings.

Owens had filed a paternity lawsuit claiming Echard fathered twins. She later said she had miscarried and dropped the case. A separate set of allegations involved another man she had dated in 2021.

Judge Orders Jail Time and Probation

On October 23, 2026, an Arizona judge sentenced Owens to 30 days in county jail and seven years of probation. The judge also warned that violating probation could expose her to a lengthy prison sentence.

During the hearing, Owens apologized for the pain, distress, and expenses her actions caused. Echard also addressed the court, expressing concern about the impact of the case and arguing that jail time was necessary.

The case received extensive public attention, with the legal proceedings and the experiences of those involved becoming the subject of news coverage and true-crime discussions.

A High-Profile Case With Lasting Consequences

The sentencing marks a significant development in a case that followed years of legal disputes and public scrutiny. For Echard and the other man involved, the proceedings brought criminal consequences after a prolonged period of uncertainty.

The case also illustrates how fabricated evidence and false statements in legal proceedings can carry serious consequences. Although the sentence is relatively short, the seven-year probation term places Owens under court supervision for years to come.
