Presley Gerber's Rehab Owner Once Had License Suspended | TMZ Live Clip

New details are emerging about the sober living facility where Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, died earlier this month.

According to TMZ, the founder of the Santa Monica facility, psychologist Reza Nabavi, previously had his psychology license temporarily revoked in 2006, years before he opened the recovery residence where Gerber later stayed.

Gerber died Sept. 20 after going into cardiac arrest at the facility. His death is being investigated as a suspected overdose, but the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet determined an official cause or manner of death.

The Facility Was Not State-Licensed as a Treatment Center

The California Department of Public Health told TMZ that it does not license or regulate Resolutions Therapeutic Services or Resolutions Living, the organizations associated with the facility where Gerber died.

The California Department of Health Care Services also reportedly found no record of the facility operating as a licensed substance-use-disorder residential treatment center.

Officials said the facility appeared to operate as a sober living environment or recovery residence, a type of housing that does not require a DHCS license as long as it does not provide certain regulated treatment services such as detoxification, counseling, group sessions or treatment planning.

That distinction is now drawing attention as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding Gerber's death.

Nabavi’s Previous Licensing Issue

State records reviewed by TMZ show that Nabavi's psychology license was temporarily revoked in 2006.

He was subsequently placed on five years of probation and was reportedly required to abstain from alcohol and controlled substances and comply with other conditions. Reporting has not established that the earlier licensing action was connected to Gerber's death.

Nabavi later obtained a psychology license, which remains active and is currently scheduled to expire in 2028, according to TMZ.

Gerber Had Sought Help for Addiction

Gerber had been open about his struggles with substance use and mental health for years.

The model, who followed his mother into the fashion industry, frequently discussed his recovery journey publicly and launched his “Mental Health Mondays” series on Instagram in 2025.

In one of his final social media posts, Gerber discussed undergoing ibogaine treatment as part of his efforts to address his addiction. His family has previously spoken about his long-running struggles and his attempts to seek treatment.

Investigation Into His Death Continues

According to reports, Gerber arrived at the Santa Monica residence on the evening before his death and appeared to be under the influence. He was found unresponsive the following morning after going into cardiac arrest.

A 911 call reportedly included an indication of a possible overdose, but authorities have not publicly established that as the official cause of death. No foul play is suspected.

The medical examiner's investigation remains pending, meaning the circumstances surrounding Gerber's death could become clearer once toxicology and other testing are completed.

More Questions for the Facility

The revelations about Nabavi's licensing history and the facility's regulatory status add another layer to an already complicated investigation.

For now, officials have not accused Nabavi or the sober living facility of causing Gerber's death, and the significance of his former licensing issue to the current investigation remains unclear.

Gerber's family has asked for privacy as they mourn his death.

As investigators await the medical examiner's findings, attention is now turning not only to what happened to Gerber in his final hours, but also to the structure and oversight of the facility where he was staying.
