Ella Langley BREAKS Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' Hot 100 Record
The country singer’s breakout hit “Choosin’ Texas” has spent its 23rd week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Langley the longest-running No. 1 song in the chart’s history. The milestone moves her past Mariah Carey’s holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which previously held the record with 22 weeks at the top.
For Langley, 27, the achievement marks another extraordinary moment in a career that has skyrocketed over the past year.
From Country Hit to All-Genre Phenomenon
“Choosin’ Texas” was released in October 2025 as part of Langley’s second album, Dandelion. The song initially made waves on the country charts before crossing over to become one of the biggest songs in the country.
Langley co-wrote the track with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. Its story of heartbreak uses a playful rivalry between Tennessee and Texas to tell a familiar love-triangle story.
The song's success has stretched well beyond traditional country audiences, helping Langley become one of the most recognizable new names in country music.
Mariah Carey’s Record Falls
Carey's “All I Want for Christmas Is You” had held the all-time Hot 100 record with 22 weeks at No. 1.
The holiday favorite originally reached No. 1 in 2019 and repeatedly returned to the top during subsequent Christmas seasons, eventually accumulating its record-setting 22 weeks.
Now, Langley's “Choosin’ Texas” has moved into the No. 1 spot on its own.
The song's 23-week run also puts it ahead of previous record-holders including Shaboozey's “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X's “Old Town Road.”
A Song That Keeps Connecting
Part of the song's appeal comes from its relaxed rhythm and emotionally restrained delivery.
Langley previously told Billboard that she believes the song connected because it felt honest while still having a strong groove, memorable melodies and guitar hooks.
That combination helped turn what could have been a straightforward heartbreak song into a crossover hit with staying power.
According to data cited by the Associated Press, “Choosin’ Texas” had accumulated more than 911 million on-demand streams in the U.S. and 1.26 billion globally by mid-August.
Langley Is Still Taking It In
Despite the enormous numbers, Langley has acknowledged that the scale of the song's success can be difficult to fully process.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, she said she was struggling to find the words after learning that “Choosin’ Texas” had officially broken Carey's record.
The milestone comes as Langley continues her rise as a headlining country artist, with her career expanding rapidly since the release of her breakthrough music.
A Record-Breaking Chapter
For decades, the Billboard Hot 100 has measured the biggest songs across every genre, making a 23-week No. 1 run an especially significant achievement.
Now, a country heartbreak song from a rising Alabama star sits alone at the top of the record book.
“Choosin’ Texas” has officially chosen its place in Billboard history.
