Wynonna and Ashley Judd NOT Talking, 4 Years After Mom Naomi’s Death
In a new interview with PEOPLE, Wynonna revealed that she and Ashley are currently taking a break from one another.
“We’re taking a break, which all families can relate to,” Wynonna said. “She’s doing her thing, and I’m doing mine.”
The singer did not go into detail about what led to the distance between the sisters, instead describing it as something that families can sometimes experience.
Life After Naomi Judd
The sisters' relationship has unfolded against the backdrop of a profound family loss.
Naomi Judd died by suicide in April 2022, one day before she and Wynonna were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame as The Judds.
Her death deeply affected both daughters, who have spoken publicly at different times about grief, mental health and the complicated process of moving forward without their mother.
Wynonna has continued performing and honoring The Judds' musical legacy, while Ashley has pursued her own work as an actress, activist and author.
Wynonna Says They’re on Separate Paths
Rather than describing the situation as a permanent estrangement, Wynonna emphasized that she and Ashley are simply in different places right now.
Her comments suggest that the sisters are giving each other room while continuing to navigate their individual lives.
Family relationships can change over time, particularly after a major loss, and Wynonna's description of the situation leaves open the possibility that the sisters may reconnect when the time is right.
A Complicated Family History
Wynonna and Ashley have previously been candid about having different personalities and approaches to life despite growing up together.
Their relationship has also experienced difficult periods in the past, including public disagreements surrounding their mother and the Judds' legacy.
Still, the sisters have repeatedly supported one another through major moments, including Naomi's death and the years that followed.
For now, however, Wynonna says they are choosing some distance.
Moving Forward
Four years after losing their mother, both women continue to build lives shaped by Naomi's enormous legacy — but in very different ways.
For Wynonna, music remains a central part of that journey. Ashley has continued her work in entertainment and advocacy.
And while the sisters may not currently be speaking, Wynonna's description of their relationship as a “break” rather than a final goodbye suggests that the door has not necessarily been closed.
For a family that has experienced extraordinary loss in the public eye, sometimes moving forward also means giving each other space to heal.
