Woman Awarded $300k By Jury After Drinking 15 Shots Of Tequila On A Cruise

A California nurse, Diana Sanders, was awarded $300,000 by a federal jury in Miami after saying Carnival Cruise Line kept serving her tequila even after she was visibly intoxicated. Reports say she drank 14 to 15 shots over about eight hours, then fell down stairs and suffered a concussion and other injuries.

What the jury found

The jury found Carnival 60% at fault and Sanders 40% responsible for her injuries. Her lawyers argued that the crew negligently overserved her despite obvious signs of impairment.

Why it’s notable

The case is getting attention because it combines personal responsibility with a company-duty question: how much should a cruise line intervene when a passenger is clearly over the limit. Carnival has said it disagrees with the verdict and plans to appeal.
