Woman at center of Michigan football coach’s firing, arrest speaks out

The woman at the center of the Sherrone Moore scandal is Paige Shiver, a former University of Michigan football executive assistant who says she felt trapped in a relationship with the fired coach. She told ABC News that Moore “knew he had power over me,” and said she feared for her job security and safety as the situation escalated.

Her account

Shiver said the relationship began when she was an intern in 2022 and later continued after she became Moore’s executive assistant. She described the affair as an “open secret” inside the athletics department and said she was pressured to help calm Moore down when he was upset.

What happened that day

According to the report, the most serious confrontation came on Dec. 10, when Moore allegedly entered her apartment after being fired and blamed her for ruining his life. Shiver said she feared for her life, asked him repeatedly to leave, and described him as crying and threatening self-harm.

Why she spoke out

Shiver said she is telling her side now to help other women recognize manipulation and coercion in workplace relationships. The University of Michigan said it terminated Moore promptly after she reported the affair and remains committed to a respectful workplace.
