Wife of US Soldier Detained by ICE Inside Military Base

A U.S. Army staff sergeant is trying to stop his wife, Annie Ramos, from being deported after ICE detained her at Fort Polk, Louisiana, just days after their wedding. Reports say she is originally from Honduras, has been in the U.S. since childhood, and was taken into federal custody when the couple went to the base to begin spouse paperwork.

What happened

The couple had gone to the base with her passport, birth certificate, marriage license, and his military ID so Ramos could be registered as a military spouse. Instead, base personnel contacted immigration authorities, and Ramos was detained and sent to an ICE facility in Louisiana.

Why it’s drawing attention

The case has sparked criticism from military-family advocates, who say deporting a soldier’s spouse is especially harsh while he is preparing for deployment. DHS has said Ramos does not have legal status to remain in the country.
