Why Kelly Clarkson Hasn’t Dated Since Death of Ex-Husband

Kelly Clarkson is opening up about why she has no plans to date right now — and the reason comes down to her children.

During a recent appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, the Grammy-winning singer said she is choosing to remain single while focusing on her two children, 12-year-old River and 10-year-old Remington.

Clarkson said introducing a new relationship into their lives could “rock their boat a little bit,” particularly after the death of their father, her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

“I Love My Life Right Now”

Clarkson made it clear that her decision isn't because she feels unhappy or is opposed to relationships.

Instead, she said she genuinely enjoys the life she has built with her children.

“And honestly, this is not a bulls— answer. I love my life right now,” Clarkson said during the podcast.

She explained that she has reached a point where she no longer feels constantly exhausted and is enjoying having more time to simply be present with her kids.

“We're having fun, and we're cooking, we're playing games,” she said. “I'm there at pickup, or I'm there dropping off. I'm there.”

Protecting Her Children’s Stability

Clarkson shares River and Remington with Blackstock, whom she married in 2013. The couple separated in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2022. Blackstock died in August 2025 at age 48 following a battle with cancer.

With the children already dealing with the loss of their father, Clarkson said she doesn't want to introduce another major change into their family dynamic right now.

Her comments reflect a decision to prioritize stability and the time she has with them during a significant period in their lives.

“I Am Unwilling”

Clarkson also acknowledged that relationships require time and attention — something she isn't currently prepared to give up.

“I feel like if you're going to be in a relationship, you have to be willing to give some of your time up, and I am unwilling,” she said.

For Clarkson, the choice isn't about closing the door on love forever. It's about recognizing what she wants her priorities to be right now.

A New Chapter in New York

Clarkson has also been embracing family life in New York City, where she has enjoyed raising her children and exposing them to different cultures and experiences.

She said she loves being able to take them to school, cook with them and spend everyday time together.

Her daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, ended in August after seven seasons, a decision that also gave her more time with River and Remington.

Family Comes First

For now, Clarkson appears content with the life she has created.

Rather than searching for a new relationship, she's choosing school pickups, cooking, games and time with her children — a quieter chapter after several difficult years.

And as Clarkson put it, she loves her life right now.
