Watch: Man Runs for His Life as Crazed Ex-Girlfriend Tries to Run Him Over in Wild Oklahoma Chase
The Sept. 23 incident began as a hit-and-run before escalating into a dangerous pursuit. Police said the woman repeatedly rammed the man's vehicle and later drove after him as he ran from the scene.
The dramatic footage shows the man running for his life while the vehicle circles back toward him.
Police Receive a Welfare Check Call
Ponca City police initially received a call about a man who appeared to be running from a vehicle.
Officers were then alerted to a hit-and-run on North 14th Street. Security footage showed a woman driving a white car repeatedly pushing a dark-colored vehicle, backing up and striking it several times.
By the time officers arrived, the man had gotten out of his vehicle.
The Situation Escalates
According to police, the woman continued driving through the area and refused to stop when officers attempted to intervene.
As the man ran away, investigators said the woman accelerated and appeared to pursue him. At one point, she drove toward a group of people who had gathered to check on the man.
The footage captured the man continuing to flee as the vehicle came toward him.
Bystander Steps In
The chase finally came to an end when a bystander intervened.
A person driving a red SUV struck the woman's vehicle from the side, stopping her from continuing toward the man. Police then surrounded the vehicle and took the driver into custody.
The man involved in the confrontation was not injured, and police said no other injuries were reported.
The Couple Had Recently Split
Investigators identified the woman as 61-year-old Ruth Ann Harper and said she and the man had recently ended a dating relationship.
The circumstances surrounding the breakup and what led to the initial confrontation remain under investigation.
What Happens Next?
Initial reports said Harper was arrested on preliminary complaints involving multiple counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, with additional complaints potentially expected as the investigation continued. However, subsequent reporting indicated that formal criminal charges had not yet been filed in connection with the incident.
No injuries were reported, but the security footage has drawn attention to just how quickly a dispute between former partners escalated into a potentially deadly chase.
