Tyra Banks vs. Netflix: Model Fires Back as Streamer Seeks to Toss Out ANTM Doc Lawsuit

Tyra Banks Fires Back at Netflix Over America’s Next Top Model Documentary Lawsuit

Published: August 18, 2026

Tyra Banks is pushing back against Netflix as the streaming giant seeks to have her lawsuit over the documentary Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model dismissed.

Banks sued Netflix in June, arguing that the documentary presented a defamatory and misleading portrayal of her and edited her interview in a way that supported what she says is a false narrative.

Tyra Challenges Netflix Over Interview Footage

According to Banks' legal team, she participated in an interview lasting approximately three and a half hours, but only about 16 minutes of her interview appeared in the documentary.

Now, Banks is challenging Netflix to release the complete, unedited interview, arguing that viewers should be able to compare her full comments with the portions ultimately included in the documentary.

Her attorneys maintain that the lawsuit isn't simply about dissatisfaction with how an interview was edited or an attempt to control Netflix's creative decisions.

Instead, they argue that the central issue is whether the documentary materially distorted Banks' words and the underlying facts.

Netflix Seeks to Dismiss the Lawsuit

Netflix has moved to dismiss Banks' lawsuit, setting up a legal dispute over the documentary and how her interview was used.

The case centers on questions involving editorial choices, the portrayal of public figures and whether the documentary crossed the line from protected storytelling into allegedly defamatory content.

Banks' response signals that she intends to continue pursuing the case rather than accept Netflix's argument that the lawsuit should be thrown out.

The Fight Over the ANTM Legacy

America's Next Top Model became one of the most recognizable reality television franchises after debuting in 2003, with Banks serving as its creator, host and a central figure throughout much of its run.

The documentary revisits the show's history and controversies, bringing renewed attention to Banks' role in the series.

The legal battle could ultimately determine whether Banks' claims move forward in court and whether additional footage from her interview becomes part of the public record.

For now, the dispute between Banks and Netflix continues, with both sides taking sharply different positions over how the documentary portrayed her.
