Tucker Carlson Apologizes for Endorsing Trump

Tucker Carlson apologized for “misleading people” with his support of Donald Trump, saying on his podcast that he feels partly responsible for helping Trump get reelected. He said he would be “tormented by it for a long time” and framed the remarks as a moral reckoning over his past backing of Trump.

What he said

Carlson made the comments during a conversation with his brother Buckley on The Tucker Carlson Show. He said, “I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people,” and added that his support was not intentional.

Why he changed tone

The apology comes as Carlson has sharply broken with Trump over the war in Iran and Trump’s rhetoric, which Carlson described as cynical and sacrilegious. The split marks a major shift from Carlson’s role as one of Trump’s most prominent media allies during the 2024 campaign.

Bigger picture

This is getting attention because Carlson was once one of Trump’s loudest boosters, so his regret is a notable reversal. It also underscores the growing rift inside the conservative media world over Trump’s current policies.
