Trina Braxton's Husband Von Scales Dead at 58
A representative for the Braxton family confirmed Scales’ death on Oct. 1, sharing a statement with TMZ.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” the statement said. The family also asked for privacy as they navigate the loss.
Married Since 2019
Braxton and Scales married in December 2019 after meeting through mutual friends. Their relationship and wedding were featured on the family's reality television shows, including Braxton Family Values and The Braxtons.
Before their wedding, Braxton spoke about how naturally their relationship developed after they were introduced by friends.
Scales, an entrepreneur and former college basketball player, became a familiar face to viewers as he built a life with Braxton and her family.
A Source of Support for Trina
Scales was also there for Braxton during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
Her former husband, Gabriel “Gabe” Solis, died in December 2018 at age 43 following a battle with cancer. Braxton had previously described Scales as an important source of support while she and her two sons grieved Solis.
In a 2019 interview, Braxton said Scales “really helped me through it” and stood by her during that difficult period.
Their relationship became a new chapter for Braxton after an especially painful loss.
What We Know About His Death
Sources close to the family told TMZ that Scales died around 2 a.m. Thursday in Atlanta. Those sources said he had been dealing with heart-related problems, but an official cause of death has not been released.
The family has not announced funeral or memorial arrangements.

Scales' death comes after several difficult losses for the Braxton family.
Trina's sister Traci Braxton died in March 2022 at age 50 following a battle with esophageal cancer. The family publicly mourned Traci, who was also a singer and television personality.
