Tom Cruise Credits His Dance Moves to SOUL TRAIN (Exclusive)
During an interview with ET’s Nischelle Turner at the Los Angeles premiere of his upcoming movie Digger, Cruise revealed that some of his signature dance moves were inspired by the legendary music and dance television series Soul Train.
The actor, who has famously danced his way through several of his movies over the years, gave the classic program credit for helping shape his moves.
From Action Hero to Dance Floor
Cruise has never been afraid to show off his rhythm on screen.
From the iconic underwear dance in Risky Business to his energetic moves in Tropic Thunder and other films, dancing has become one of the unexpected recurring elements of his career.
Now, Cruise is revealing that Soul Train was part of the inspiration behind it all.
The long-running music program became a cultural phenomenon by showcasing some of the era’s biggest musical acts alongside groundbreaking dancers and their distinctive styles.
Supporting His Fellow Actors
During the conversation, Cruise also discussed how he approaches working with other actors.
The actor is known for performing many of his own demanding stunts, but he said his focus on set extends beyond his own performance. He emphasized the importance of creating an environment where fellow performers can do their best work.
That collaborative approach has become a major part of Cruise’s reputation as a leading man who remains deeply involved in the filmmaking process.
Dog Person or Cat Person?
Cruise also faced a much lighter question during the interview: Is he a dog person or a cat person?
The star didn't shy away from the fun side of the conversation, giving fans another glimpse of his personality away from the intense action sequences that have defined much of his recent career.
A New Adventure With Digger
Cruise's comments came during the Los Angeles premiere of Digger, which is scheduled to hit theaters Oct. 2.
The film adds another project to a career that has stretched across more than four decades, with Cruise continuing to balance major action productions with character-driven performances.
Whether he's jumping from buildings, flying aircraft or showing off his dance moves, Cruise clearly isn't slowing down.
And if his dancing is any indication, Soul Train deserves at least some of the credit.
