This Morning’s Alison Hammond Hospitalized After Abrupt On-Air Exit | E! News
The 51-year-old presenter was hosting the Oct. 2 episode alongside Dermot O'Leary when she suddenly walked off camera during a phone-in segment with veterinarian Dr. Scott Miller. O'Leary continued the segment alone before later telling viewers that Hammond was feeling unwell and would not be returning to the show.
“I’m Getting My Little Ticker Checked Out”
Hours later, Hammond addressed concerned fans from a hospital bed in a video shared to Instagram.
“Honestly, I am fine, first of all, but I'm getting my little ticker checked out,” she said.
Hammond explained that she had been experiencing heart palpitations and was undergoing medical checks to determine what was happening. She also said she thought it could potentially have been a panic attack, but emphasized that doctors were still evaluating her.
“I Would Never Leave a TV Show”
Hammond also apologized to viewers for suddenly disappearing from the broadcast, explaining that leaving the show was extremely unusual for her.
“I would never normally do that,” she said, adding that she knew she must not have been feeling well to leave while the program was live. She thanked fans for their messages and said the hospital staff were taking good care of her.
Her co-host had initially reassured viewers that Hammond was simply “a little unwell” before confirming that he would host the remainder of the program alone.
Fans Rally Around the Presenter
Hammond's sudden departure quickly sparked concern among viewers, particularly after she was seen leaving the camera during the live broadcast.
Her later hospital update appeared intended to reassure fans that she was receiving medical attention and that she was feeling well enough to speak directly to them.
At the time of her update, Hammond had not shared a formal diagnosis or said that doctors had identified a specific heart condition.
Waiting for Further Tests
For now, Hammond is waiting for doctors to complete their checks.
Her message was clear: she is being monitored, she feels she is okay and she wanted her fans to know she had not simply disappeared without explanation.
As she waits for more answers, viewers of This Morning have continued sending their support to the longtime presenter.
