Taylor Frankie Paul says she’s detaching from the Mormon church, but she says she still has love and respect for it. She shared that she was born and raised LDS, will still attend with her family sometimes, but feels it’s time to separate herself from the faith she built much of her public identity around.

Why she made the shift

Her announcement came amid a very turbulent period, including domestic abuse allegations, a canceled run as the next Bachelorette, and a custody battle with ex Dakota Mortensen. In her post, she said she still believes in Christ, God, and the Bible, but no longer wants to define herself through the church.

Paul’s message was emotional and reflective, with one outlet describing the last stretch of her life as “hell on earth”. She said her decision was about personal conviction and where she is spiritually now, not about rejecting faith altogether.
