Son charged in death of 88-year-old mother

A Chicago man, Kevan Works, has been charged with first-degree murder and concealing the death of his 88-year-old mother, Daniest Graves. Prosecutors say her body was found in the basement of their Roseland home, wrapped in a rug and other materials, after she had been reported missing.

Case details

Police say Works told officers he had not seen his mother since March 27, but investigators later found Graves dead at the home on South Lafayette Avenue. An autopsy ruled her death a homicide and found multiple injuries consistent with a physical assault.

Court status

Reports say Works appeared in court and was ordered detained pending trial because prosecutors said he posed a danger to the community. One report also says he allegedly exchanged the victim’s car for drugs.
