Sandra Bullock's Daughter Wants Her to Date Again With ONE Condition
The Oscar-winning actress opened up about her personal life, motherhood and the possibility of getting back into the dating scene during an appearance on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast.
Bullock revealed that her 13-year-old daughter has encouraged her to date again following the death of her longtime partner, photographer Bryan Randall, in 2023. But Laila isn't simply telling her mom to find someone she likes — she has a rather practical requirement.
Laila Has Some Dating “Parameters”
Bullock said her daughter told her that she “needed to date,” but only someone who could “get stuff.”
When Bullock asked whether that meant a rapper or basketball player, Laila apparently agreed.
“So I said, ‘What, a rapper? A basketball player? That’s the parameters?’” Bullock recalled. “She’s like, ‘Yeah.’”
The exchange gave Bullock — and podcast host Kylie Kelce — a laugh, but it also offered a glimpse into the brutally honest personality Bullock says her daughter has always had.
Bullock has previously described Laila as fearless and outspoken, saying she is one of the bravest people she has ever met.
Three Years After Bryan Randall’s Death
Bullock's comments about dating come more than three years after Randall died in August 2023 following a private battle with ALS. The couple had been together since 2015, and Randall played an important role in Bullock's family life.
Bullock has recently opened up more about the emotional toll of Randall's illness and death. She revealed that she began grieving years before his passing as she watched his condition progress, while also respecting his request to keep his diagnosis private.
Since Randall's death, Bullock has largely stepped away from Hollywood to focus on raising her two children, Louis, 16, and Laila, 13.
“My Kids Are My Everything”
During the podcast, Bullock made it clear that motherhood remains her top priority.
“My kids are my everything,” she said, explaining that she now chooses acting projects based largely on whether they fit around her children's schedules.
That approach played a role in her decision to return for Practical Magic 2, nearly three decades after the original 1998 film. The sequel, which reunites Bullock with Nicole Kidman, is scheduled for release September 10.
Bullock also said she feels fortunate to be able to spend so much time with her children and has “no desire” to leave them.
Her Daughter Keeps Her on Her Toes
Laila's honesty doesn't stop at dating advice.
Bullock recalled getting ready to join a Zoom call when Laila walked past her and suggested she use a filter because she could “make yourself look better.” Bullock laughed about the interaction and said she appreciates her daughter's honesty.
At the same time, Bullock acknowledged that raising a teenager can be both exciting and terrifying.
She described Laila as someone who has very little fear — whether she's speaking her mind, taking on athletic challenges or simply doing the things Bullock herself might have thought about doing as a child.
“She’s incredible,” Bullock said. “She scares the s--- out of me.”
Despite the challenges, Bullock said she wouldn't change her daughter's bold personality. Instead, she wants to help guide her while allowing her to become the person she is meant to be.
Love May Have to Wait
For now, Bullock appears content focusing on her children and carefully choosing when — and how — she returns to work.
Whether she actually follows Laila's advice and starts dating a rapper or basketball player remains to be seen.
But one thing is clear: after years of putting her family first, Bullock isn't ruling out the possibility of love again. And if she does decide to date, she already has one very opinionated matchmaker at home.
