Pete Davidson Admits to Using Drugs and Hitting Rock Bottom While Dating Kim Kardashian
In a new interview with Variety, the 32-year-old comedian reflected on his nine-month relationship with Kardashian and admitted that the intense attention surrounding her world was difficult to handle while he was struggling with his mental health and substance use.
“The craze of that lifestyle — being followed everywhere, having security and looking over your shoulder — for a guy with mental stuff, and at the time drug problems, was a little too much for me,” Davidson told the magazine.
“It Got Scary”
Davidson also spoke more openly about the extent of his drug use during a period that eventually led him to seek treatment.
He said that in 2023, his substance use had reached a frightening point. Davidson told Variety that he was using ketamine, acid, mushrooms, whippets, marijuana and pills, at one point taking pills every day. He said the situation became particularly alarming when he realized he no longer felt high from the drugs.
“I didn’t feel high. I felt high when I wasn’t doing it,” Davidson said, describing the moment he realized he had a serious problem.
A call from his mother ultimately helped push him toward rehab. Davidson has said that previous treatment attempts were influenced by other people, but this time he wanted to get help for himself. He now says he has been sober from hard drugs for more than two years.
Looking Back at His Relationship With Kim
Davidson and Kardashian began dating in late 2021 after meeting while Kardashian hosted Saturday Night Live. Their relationship quickly became one of the most closely watched celebrity romances, particularly as Kardashian was going through her divorce from Kanye West.
Davidson said Kardashian herself was respectful of his boundaries and emphasized that he was never forced into anything he did not want to do.
“But we’re cool, and I have a lot of love for her,” he said.
The couple ultimately split in August 2022 after roughly nine months together.
The Pressure of Living in the Spotlight
For Davidson, the relationship exposed him to a level of attention that was difficult to escape.
He joked that he was one of the “survivors” of dating Kardashian, comparing her famous exes to the Marines. But beneath the humor, he described the constant security, cameras and public scrutiny as an overwhelming environment.
Davidson also dealt with intense public attacks from Kardashian's former husband, Ye, during the relationship. He said the experience affected him deeply, particularly because he had already been open about his mental health struggles.
A Different Place in His Life Now
Davidson's perspective has changed considerably since those years.
The comedian is now a father to daughter Scottie, born in December 2025, and has said fatherhood has become a major motivation for maintaining his sobriety and creating a more stable life.
Looking back at his relationship with Kardashian, Davidson does not appear to hold resentment toward her. Instead, he credits her with respecting his boundaries and says they remain on good terms.
For Davidson, the story is ultimately less about the celebrity relationship and more about what was happening behind the headlines — and how far he has come since reaching his lowest point. Source: ET
