Overdose suspected in death of Cindy Crawford's son, Presley Gerber
The death of Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, is being investigated as a suspected overdose, authorities said.
Gerber died Sunday, Sept. 20, at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California. The Santa Monica Police Department said officers responded around 9:35 a.m. to a report of a possible overdose and found an adult male deceased at the location. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later identified him as Gerber.
Authorities said there is currently no indication of foul play.
911 Call Reported Cardiac Arrest
According to dispatch records obtained by news outlets, emergency responders were called to the facility after reports of both a cardiac arrest and a possible overdose.
Gerber was pronounced dead at approximately 9:45 a.m., according to the Medical Examiner's Office. He had reportedly checked into the rehabilitation facility only hours earlier.
An autopsy has since been completed, but officials have not yet determined exactly what caused his death.
Cause of Death Remains Deferred
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has listed Gerber's cause and manner of death as deferred, meaning additional testing is required before an official determination can be made.
Officials have said that toxicology and other studies could take several months. Until those results are complete, an overdose remains a police investigation theory rather than a confirmed medical finding.
Police are also reportedly investigating the possible source of drugs involved in the suspected overdose.
A Family Asking for Privacy
Gerber's family confirmed his death and asked the public to respect their privacy as they grieve.
He was the only son of Crawford and Rande Gerber and the older brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber.
In a statement, the family said they are going through an “extremely difficult and painful” time and requested privacy.
Presley Had Spoken Openly About Addiction
Gerber had previously been candid about his struggles with mental health and substance use.
In recent years, he used social media to discuss his experiences and created “Mental Health Mondays,” a series intended to encourage more open conversations about emotional well-being and recovery. He also discussed addiction and mental health during a 2023 podcast appearance, saying he hoped his experiences could help others avoid some of the mistakes he had made.
His sister Kaia had also spoken publicly about her brother's struggles, emphasizing how deeply they affected their family.
A Young Model With a Famous Family
Gerber followed his mother into modeling, beginning his career as a teenager. He worked with major fashion brands including Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana and appeared alongside his mother in a 2018 Pepsi Super Bowl commercial.
Despite growing up in one of fashion's most recognizable families, Gerber increasingly used his public platform to discuss the personal challenges he faced away from the runway.
Now, his family is mourning his death while investigators and medical officials work to determine exactly what happened.
For the moment, authorities are treating the death as a suspected overdose, but the official cause of death remains pending.
