Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner, has been indicted by a Los Angeles County grand jury in connection with the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The indictment was returned July 20 and unsealed Wednesday.

New “lying in wait” allegation

Reiner faces two counts of murder, with prosecutors adding a special-circumstance allegation that he killed his parents by lying in wait. The indictment also alleges multiple murders and use of a knife as a dangerous and deadly weapon.

The new indictment allows prosecutors to bypass the preliminary-hearing stage and move the case toward trial more quickly.

His parents were found dead in their home

Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found fatally stabbed at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles on Dec. 14, 2025. Nick Reiner was arrested hours later and was subsequently charged with their killings.

Rob Reiner was best known for directing films including The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally... and A Few Good Men, as well as playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family. Michele Reiner was a photographer, producer and LGBTQ+ rights advocate.

Reiner has pleaded not guilty

Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty to the indictment. He remains in custody without bail.

The special-circumstance allegations could make him eligible for the death penalty if convicted, although prosecutors have not decided whether they will seek capital punishment.
