Megan Thee Stallion on ‘Losing’ Herself in Klay Thompson Relationship and What She Wants After Split
In her September InStyle cover story, the Grammy-winning rapper opened up about her relationship with NBA star Klay Thompson, revealing that she felt she was slowly losing herself while trying to make the relationship work.
“I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again,” Megan said.
'It Was Very Rough'
Megan and Thompson were first linked in the summer of 2025 and made their red-carpet debut that July. Their relationship ended in April 2026, when Megan publicly announced the split and accused Thompson of being unfaithful.
At the time, Megan said trust, fidelity and respect were non-negotiable for her.
Months later, she is opening up about what the relationship felt like from her perspective.
“It was very rough,” she told InStyle, explaining that she spent much of the relationship trying to force pieces together that simply did not fit.
Megan said she was constantly trying to fit herself into someone else's life rather than remaining true to her own identity.
She also described the emotional aftermath in characteristically colorful terms, saying she felt as though she had been put through “the washing machine and the dryer with tins, shovels, and a cactus.”
Therapy Has Become Part of Her Healing
Rather than simply moving on publicly, Megan said she has been working through the experience privately as well.
“I’ve been to therapy. I’m still in therapy,” she said, acknowledging that healing has been an ongoing process.
The rapper has also spent time reflecting on her boundaries, self-worth and the importance of maintaining her own identity within a relationship.
For Megan, being cheated on is not something she believes should make a person question their value. She emphasized that someone else's decision to be unfaithful does not make the person who was betrayed less attractive or less worthy.
What She Wants in Her Next Relationship
Megan's experience with Thompson has also clarified what she wants from a future partner.
She has made it clear that she does not want to disappear into another person's life again. Instead, she wants a relationship in which both people maintain their individuality and support each other's ambitions.
“I cannot be minimized. I will not be behind any man. I will have a partner,” Megan said in the InStyle interview.
She also stressed that she cannot be someone who stops being herself or puts her career aside for a relationship.
For Megan, independence isn't about rejecting love — it's about making sure love doesn't require her to become someone else.
Megan Is Putting That Energy Into Music
As she works through the breakup, Megan is also channeling her energy back into her career.
The rapper is preparing her next project, Act III, which will mark her return to her Tina Snow alter ego and follow 2024's Megan: Act II.
Megan teased the project in August by posting photos featuring the words “Act III” and “I'm Back.” She later explained that she has been taking her time with the album because she wants it to be something special rather than rushing it out.
She has also said that Act III will include collaborations that she believes fans have been waiting for, including some unexpected pairings.
The project is reportedly still being finalized. In September, Megan joked that she was struggling to create a song that could capture the feeling of her fan-favorite “Cognac Queen” without simply recreating it — a challenge she said may be part of what is holding up the album.
Building Her 'Hot Girl Universe'
Music isn't the only thing occupying Megan's attention.
In her InStyle cover story, she discussed expanding her identity beyond music and building what she calls a “Hot Girl Universe,” with ventures spanning fashion, beauty, fragrance, swimwear and other business projects.
That larger vision appears to reflect the same personal shift she describes after her breakup: putting herself at the center of her own life.
After a relationship that she says left her feeling disconnected from herself, Megan is determined to reclaim that identity — on her own terms.
And as she prepares for Act III, she seems ready to turn that growth into her next chapter.
