The Maui doctor accused of trying to kill his wife testified that he acted in self-defense, saying she tried to push him off a cliff during a birthday hike and that he hit her with a rock after that. Gerhardt Konig told the jury that the confrontation on Oahu began after a dispute over an alleged affair, and he said he was disoriented afterward. He also denied bringing a syringe and denied admitting to his son that he tried to kill his wife, though his son testified that Konig had said exactly that.
