Malcolm in the Middle’s Justin Berfield Credits Bryan Cranston for Making Revival Happen (Exclusive)

Justin Berfield says Bryan Cranston was a key force behind Malcolm in the Middle getting revived, crediting him for helping push the project across the finish line. Berfield is returning as Reese in the new revival, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, which reunites the core family more than 20 years after the original run.

Why he singled out Cranston

Berfield’s comments line up with earlier reports that Cranston had been interested in bringing the show back for years and was one of the main advocates for a reunion. In interviews about the reboot, the cast has made clear that Cranston’s momentum helped turn a longtime idea into a real production.

What the revival looks like

The Disney+ revival is set to include Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Justin Berfield, and Christopher Masterson, with the story centered on Malcolm returning home for his parents’ anniversary. It’s scheduled as a four-episode event, making it a short but high-profile comeback for one of TV’s most beloved family comedies.
