Intel Announces It Is Joining Musk's Terafab Project

Intel says it is joining Elon Musk’s Terafab project, a semiconductor effort tied to Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. The company said it will help “refactor” chip-factory technology and use its design, fabrication, and packaging experience to support the project’s goal of massive compute output.

What was announced

Intel’s post said it was “proud to join the Terafab project” with Musk’s companies, but it did not spell out exactly what Intel will do. Reports say the broader aim is to build chips for Tesla’s robotaxis and humanoid robots, plus AI infrastructure for Musk’s companies.

Why it matters

The move was seen as a notable boost for Intel, which has been trying to strengthen its comeback in advanced chips. It also comes with a big question mark, since analysts note that Terafab’s scale is enormous and the project’s execution details are still unclear.
