Husband arrested after woman reported missing, went overboard in Bahamas: Police

Police in the Bahamas arrested the husband of missing Michigan woman Lynette Hooker after she reportedly fell overboard from a dinghy while the couple was traveling between Hope Town and Elbow Cay. Authorities said the 59-year-old man was taken into custody in Abaco and is being questioned, but they have not publicly confirmed any charges yet.

What police said

According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the disappearance involved an 8-foot hard-bottom dinghy on Saturday, April 4, and the husband later reported the incident after arriving at a boat yard on Sunday. Police said Lynette Hooker, 55, fell overboard with the boat keys, which caused the engine to shut off.

Case status

The U.S. Coast Guard has opened a criminal investigation, and the U.S. State Department says it is assisting Bahamian authorities. The search for Lynette Hooker was still ongoing in the latest reports.
