Houston students rescued from stuck Galveston roller coaster

Eight students from an HISD STEM Academy were safely rescued after becoming stuck on the Iron Shark roller coaster at Pleasure Pier in Galveston for nearly four hours.

What happened

According to reports:

  • The students were riding the Iron Shark coaster when it malfunctioned

  • The ride stopped unexpectedly while they were still on the track

  • They remained stranded for approximately four hours

  • Emergency crews were called to assist with the situation

Rescue operation

Galveston Fire Department responded to the incident and:

  • Rescued the students one at a time

  • Used safety procedures to bring riders down from the coaster

  • Ensured all students were safely evacuated

  • Checked individuals for any immediate medical concerns

  • All eight students were safely brought down

  • No serious injuries were reported
