A Georgia mother is fighting for the right to pursue a lawsuit against Roblox after she says her daughter was targeted by a predator through the popular online gaming platform.

The case is part of a growing legal battle over whether Roblox did enough to protect children from adults who allegedly use the platform to groom and exploit minors. Roblox is now facing more than 160 related lawsuits alleging that the company failed to adequately protect young users.

Families Face an Arbitration Roadblock

For families seeking to take Roblox to court, however, there is another major hurdle: the company's terms of use include a mandatory arbitration provision.

Arbitration generally moves disputes out of the traditional court system and into a private process, meaning families could lose the opportunity to have their cases heard publicly before a judge or jury.

That provision has become a major point of contention in the growing litigation. Parents and attorneys representing alleged victims have challenged Roblox's attempts to compel arbitration, arguing that children should not be bound by agreements they did not meaningfully understand or enter into themselves.

In June, a federal judge in California ordered arbitration in one Roblox case, finding that the company's terms applied to the minors involved. The ruling addressed arguments that children could not be bound by Roblox's agreement and concluded that the plaintiffs' claims were subject to the arbitration provision.

Other cases have raised questions about whether federal law protecting survivors of sexual assault and harassment can prevent companies from forcing certain claims into arbitration.

The issue could ultimately have significant consequences for the hundreds of families pursuing allegations against Roblox.

Allegations of Grooming and Exploitation

Parents suing Roblox allege that predators have used the platform's chat and gaming features to contact children, build relationships with them and ultimately engage in sexual exploitation.

A Georgia lawsuit filed in 2025, for example, alleged that a child was groomed through Roblox and subjected to harassment, pornography and coercion involving explicit images. Roblox has denied liability and has said it is deeply committed to protecting its millions of young users.

Roblox has also maintained that it invests heavily in safety technology, moderation and parental resources and works with law enforcement and other organizations to combat child exploitation.

Georgia Investigates Roblox

The controversy has also attracted government scrutiny.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr launched an investigation into Roblox in February after reports of child exploitation connected to the platform. His office requested information about safety complaints, parental controls, moderation, age verification, adult-child interactions and reports of criminal activity involving Georgia users.

Carr's office said the investigation was prompted by repeated reports of children being targeted by predators through Roblox and other online platforms.

A Larger Fight Over Online Child Safety

The lawsuits against Roblox have become part of a broader national debate over how online platforms should protect children.

For parents involved in the Roblox litigation, the issue is not only whether the company can ultimately be held responsible for alleged failures. They are also fighting over whether they will be allowed to make their cases in court at all.

As the legal battle continues, the outcome of the arbitration disputes could determine how many of these families are able to publicly pursue their claims — and how much accountability Roblox ultimately faces over allegations involving child safety.
