Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax kills wife and dies by suicide

Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax killed his wife, Dr. Cerina Fairfax, and then died by suicide at their home in Annandale, Virginia, police said. Authorities described the case as a domestic-related murder-suicide amid an ongoing divorce, and said the couple’s teenage son called 911 shortly after midnight.

What police said

Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said officers found both adults dead inside the home after responding to the 911 call. He said the couple had been separated and living together during a complicated divorce, and that surveillance footage later undercut an earlier claim Fairfax had made about being assaulted by his wife.

Family impact

Police said the couple’s two teenage children were in the house at the time but were not physically harmed. The incident has been described as especially tragic because the children were present when the violence happened.
