Dozens of retired USPS workers have waited months to receive retirement benefits

Dozens of retired USPS workers have been waiting months for their retirement benefits, according to CBS News Texas. The report says the delays are tied to a federal retirement backlog, with some retirees saying they have gotten little to no explanation while they wait.

What’s causing the delay

CBS News Texas reports that USPS has been implementing a cash conservation plan and temporarily suspending contributions to its pension plans. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management said the delays are being driven by a shift from paper to electronic processing and a surge in federal retirements.

How retirees are affected

One retired USPS worker told CBS he had waited more than five months for his retirement benefits, while another said she had been trying since October to access workers’ compensation benefits. The report says some retirees filed paper applications, which can take 90 to 100 days to process, while electronic filings are faster.
