Dolly Parton CMA Tribute Highlights: Stars Honor Music Icon
Country music stars came together in Nashville on Wednesday night, October 21, to celebrate the life, music, and lasting legacy of Dolly Parton during a special tribute organized by the Country Music Association (CMA).
Titled CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton, the two-hour television event featured performances of some of Parton’s most beloved songs, along with personal stories and tributes recognizing her influence on music, entertainment, and philanthropy.
The celebration took place at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and brought together artists from across generations, including Reba McEntire, Ella Langley, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, Brad Paisley, and Kelsea Ballerini.
Stars Perform Dolly Parton’s Biggest Hits
Throughout the evening, performers put their own spin on songs that helped make Parton one of country music’s most recognizable figures.
Langley performed the classic hit “Jolene,” while Rucker took on “Two Doors Down.” Ballerini sang “Here You Come Again,” and McEntire delivered a performance of “He’s Alive.”
One of the night’s standout moments came when Underwood performed “I Will Always Love You,” the song Parton wrote and originally recorded in 1973 before it became an international hit.
The performances reflected the breadth of Parton’s musical influence, with artists from different backgrounds coming together to honor her songwriting, distinctive voice, and decades-long career.
Celebrating a Lasting Legacy
Beyond the music, the special highlighted Parton’s generosity, authenticity, and contributions beyond the entertainment industry. Friends and fellow celebrities also shared personal reflections about the singer and the impact she had on their lives.
Parton’s legacy extends well beyond her chart-topping songs. Her philanthropic work, particularly through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, has helped provide free books to children and encourage early childhood literacy.
In conjunction with the tribute, the CMA and Belmont University planned a donation from the special’s proceeds to benefit the Imagination Library, continuing Parton’s commitment to helping children and families.
The event offered fans an opportunity to celebrate the music and generosity that shaped Parton’s career, while giving fellow artists a chance to express their appreciation for a performer whose influence reaches far beyond country music.
Through familiar songs, heartfelt performances, and personal memories, the tribute honored a remarkable career and the enduring connection Parton built with audiences around the world.
