Delafield family home calls for consequences after home left covered in toilet paper, food
Rachel Tegeder said her family discovered the damage at their Delafield home on Sept. 24. Toilet paper had been wrapped around trees, the front and backyard and multiple vehicles, while Nutella was smeared across the driveway and cars. Garbage was also left scattered around the property.
For Tegeder, what might appear to some as a Halloween-style prank went much further than harmless mischief.
“I Felt Like My Family Has a Target”
Tegeder told WISN that she believes her family was intentionally targeted.
She said one of her sons, who has high-functioning autism, is bullied regularly, and that his vehicle appeared to have been vandalized more heavily than the others.
“I felt like my family has a target on their back,” Tegeder said.
She has not publicly identified anyone she believes was responsible.
Police Were Called
Tegeder reported the incident to police, and Delafield police confirmed that officers received a call about the vandalism.
More than a week after the incident, the family said toilet paper was still hanging from trees around the property. They also said they did not yet know who was responsible.
Tegeder also contacted her son's school and said she has continued communicating with the school's school resource officer. She said she had not received a response from the school administration at the time of the report.
A $1,000 Reward for Answers
Now, Tegeder is offering $1,000 to anyone who can provide information identifying those responsible.
She said the person providing the information could remain anonymous and that she wants the reward to encourage someone involved to come forward.
Her goal, she said, isn't simply punishment.
“I Want to Make Sure a Lesson Is Learned”
Tegeder said she would be willing to forgive whoever was responsible, but she still wants consequences.
“What I'm really after is consequences being issued for decisions being made,” she said, explaining that she wants young people involved to learn from what happened and understand the impact of destructive behavior.
For the family, the incident has become about more than cleaning up toilet paper and food. They say it has raised concerns about bullying, safety and whether their children are being targeted in their own neighborhood.
As police continue to handle the report, Tegeder is hoping someone with information will come forward and help the family get answers.
