A Boston man jumped into the freezing Charles River to rescue his dog after the animal ran into the water during a walk near the Boston Marathon route. The man, identified as Hans Nagrath, said he thought he might drown while trying to save his 2-year-old golden doodle, Benny.
What happened
Nagrath said it all happened so fast that he “didn’t really have time to think about it”. The rescue was caught on camera and later shared by local stations, showing how quickly a routine walk turned dangerous.
Why it got attention
He said the dog chased geese and ended up in the frigid water, which made the situation much more serious than it first appeared. Local reports say Nagrath is calling himself lucky to be alive after the ordeal.
