Can You Tell Which Designer Items Are Fake?

Fashionphile’s Director of Authentication, Laura Chavez-Sainz, joined Tamron Hall for a series of real-versus-fake tests that put designer items under a microscope. During the segment, she pointed out the small details that often expose counterfeit goods, from stitching and materials to hardware and overall construction.

Laura’s key message was to stay vigilant, especially when shopping for luxury items online or in resale markets. Fashionphile says its authenticators are trained to look closely at workmanship, thread quality, leather texture, hardware finish, and other brand-specific details that counterfeiters often miss.

The takeaway is simple: even convincing “superfakes” usually have flaws if you know where to look. That’s why buyers should compare items against trusted references and verify authenticity before making a big purchase.
