Byron Donalds explains why he took Donald Trump references off campaign website

Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds is explaining why his campaign recently removed several prominent references to President Donald Trump from its website.

The changes drew attention because Donalds has long emphasized his relationship with Trump, whose endorsement helped define the early branding of his campaign. The updated site now puts greater emphasis on issues such as affordability, insurance costs and government transparency.

Donalds addressed the changes Wednesday during an onstage interview at the Sunshine Economy Summit in South Florida, saying his campaign had been working on the website redesign for about two months.

“The Issues We Talk About Every Day”

Donalds said the purpose of the redesign was to make the website better reflect the issues he is discussing with Florida voters.

“For the general election, the voters of Florida want to know the policies you're going to implement to make their lives better,” Donalds said, according to CBS News. He added that the campaign wanted the website to reflect his vision and policy proposals for Florida.

The site's previous homepage prominently described Donalds as a “Trump-Endorsed Proven Conservative Fighter” and included a banner promoting Trump's endorsement. It also featured a photograph of Donalds and his wife, Erika, with Trump. Those elements have since been removed or moved to less prominent locations.

Trump’s Endorsement Is Still There

Despite the changes, Donalds has not removed Trump's endorsement altogether.

The endorsement remains on a dedicated section of the campaign website and appears alongside endorsements from other prominent conservative figures. Donalds has also publicly said that he remains proud to have Trump's backing.

In a statement responding to the attention surrounding the redesign, campaign spokesman Gates McGavick said the website now reflects Donalds' focus on affordability, insurance costs and government transparency.

“He's running to be the next Governor of Florida, is proud to have President Trump's endorsement, and has real policy proposals to tackle those issues,” McGavick said.

“Enact the Trump Agenda” Is Gone

One of the more noticeable changes involves the campaign's issues page.

An archived version of the site previously listed “Enact the Trump Agenda” among Donalds' top priorities. The updated version instead leads with the phrase “Accountable, Achievable, Affordable!” and focuses on policy areas rather than Trump's name.

Donalds was asked whether removing that language meant he was no longer intending to implement Trump's agenda.

He rejected that interpretation, saying the question of the website's wording was separate from his position on Trump's agenda. He described the president's agenda as centered on issues including law and order, markets, border security and immigration policy.

A Longstanding Alliance With Trump

Donalds has been a prominent Trump ally for years.

Trump endorsed his Florida gubernatorial campaign in 2025, saying Donalds would work with him to advance what Trump called his “America First Agenda.” Donalds had also publicly supported Trump during the 2024 Republican presidential primary.

The Florida congressman won the Republican nomination for governor in August and is now facing Democrat David Jolly in the November general election.

The Campaign Heads Into the Fall

The website changes come as the Florida governor's race moves into its final weeks before the November election.

For Donalds, the revamped campaign site now puts his own policy platform more prominently in front of voters, while Trump's endorsement remains part of his campaign's public record.

Donalds says the change is about communicating his priorities for Florida — particularly affordability and other issues he says voters are asking about on the campaign trail.
