Boosie Badazz Says He Stopped Trump Pardon Brokers From Allegedly Scamming Others
Rapper Boosie Badazz says he hopes his costly experience with alleged presidential pardon brokers will help prevent others from falling into similar situations.
The rapper, whose legal name is Torence Hatch, recently spoke about the controversy while leaving The Breakfast Club in New York City. He said he was glad he could bring attention to the people he claims took advantage of him while promising to help secure a presidential pardon from Donald Trump.
Boosie Says He Paid $600,000 for a Pardon
Boosie previously told 60 Minutes that he paid political operatives Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl $600,000 upfront to help obtain a pardon from Trump. However, the pardon never materialized.
According to Boosie, the agreement included a promise to return half of the payment if the pardon was not secured. He has since pursued legal action against the pair in an effort to recover $300,000.
Burkman has disputed Boosie's account of the refund agreement, saying the alleged arrangement was never agreed upon. He has also maintained that they made substantial efforts to help the rapper.
Legal Dispute Continues
The controversy has drawn attention to the business of pardon brokering, in which intermediaries charge substantial fees to help people pursue presidential clemency. While individuals may hire representatives to assist with the process, paying a broker does not guarantee a pardon.
A 60 Minutes investigation also examined claims that brokers promoted their connections to influential political figures while offering to help clients seek clemency.
Boosie has said he hopes speaking publicly about his experience will keep others from losing money in similar arrangements. His dispute with Burkman and Wohl remains focused on the money he says he is owed.
Although the rapper did not receive the pardon he sought through the arrangement, he now says exposing the situation could help others avoid a costly mistake.
