The tourist who was seriously injured in a recent bison attack at Yellowstone National Park is speaking publicly for the first time about the frightening encounter.

Carl McDaniel, 65, said he is grateful to be alive after a charging bison tossed him into the air, leaving him with serious injuries.

• Giving wildlife plenty of space to move freely.

Bison can run up to 35 mph (56 km/h) and are responsible for more visitor injuries in Yellowstone than any other large animal.
