Ariana Grande Hints at Ricky Alvarez MARRIAGE Plans With 'Thank U Next' Lyric Switch-Up
During the final show of her Eternal Sunshine Tour at London’s O2 Arena on September 1, the pop star made another noticeable change to the Ricky Alvarez line in her hit song “Thank U, Next” — and this time, fans immediately heard a possible wedding hint.
Instead of singing the original lyrics, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh,” Grande sang:
“Wrote some songs about Ricky / I’m tryna make him my last.”
The change prompted loud cheers from the London crowd and sent social media into overdrive, with many fans interpreting the lyric as a sign that Grande hopes Alvarez will be her forever partner.
From Ex-Boyfriend to Possible Forever Love
The lyric carries some serious full-circle meaning.
Grande and Alvarez first dated from 2015 to 2016, after meeting while Alvarez was one of her backup dancers. Nearly a decade later, the two have reportedly rekindled their relationship.
Their renewed connection became increasingly difficult to ignore throughout Grande’s 2026 tour.
In June, Grande first changed the Ricky lyric during a concert in Austin, singing, “Now they kinda slap.” Days later, she changed it again to “I know he still got my back.”
Then, during her July 13 concert in Brooklyn, she took things a step further, singing:
“Wrote some songs about Ricky / We always find our way back.”
Each change has fueled speculation about the couple's relationship.
The Latest Change Has Fans Talking Marriage
The newest version, however, may be the most telling yet.
By singing that she's “tryna make him my last,” Grande seemingly suggested that she isn't looking at Alvarez as simply a rekindled romance. Fans quickly began interpreting the lyric as a possible nod toward marriage or a lifelong commitment.
Still, neither Grande nor Alvarez has announced an engagement, and the singer has not explicitly said that a wedding is in the works.
The lyric remains just that — a lyric — but considering Grande has repeatedly customized the same line to reference Alvarez throughout the tour, fans understandably noticed the progression.
A Very Public Reunion
Grande and Alvarez have gradually become more open about their renewed relationship after years apart.
The pair reportedly reconnected earlier this year, and Grande later appeared to make their relationship more public. The two have also been spotted together on the road, with Alvarez accompanying her during portions of the Eternal Sunshine Tour.
Their reunion comes after Grande's relationship with Wicked co-star Ethan Slater ended earlier this year.
For now, there is no confirmed wedding date or engagement. But if Grande's latest “Thank U, Next” rewrite is any indication, she may be hoping this chapter with Alvarez has a very different ending.
And fans are definitely paying attention.
