San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested over the weekend in Ohio after police say he responded to an undercover online advertisement as part of a prostitution investigation.

York, 46, was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, near his hometown of Youngstown. He was initially charged with engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. Prosecutors later amended the prostitution charge to disorderly conduct.

York Pleads No Contest

York pleaded no contest Monday to two misdemeanor charges: disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.

According to court records, York was sentenced to one day in jail on each charge, to be served concurrently, and received credit for time already served. He was also ordered to pay $1,150 in fines and complete an online course.

A no-contest plea does not constitute an admission of guilt, but York accepted the penalties imposed by the court.

What Police Say Happened

According to a police report cited by Reuters, York allegedly used the name “Joe” while communicating with an undercover officer through a prostitution website. Authorities say he responded to the advertisement and agreed to meet at a designated location.

York arrived at a mobile home community in East Palestine, where he was taken into custody by East Palestine police and the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.

The money seized during the investigation was also addressed as part of the plea agreement.

NFL Reviewing the Case

The arrest comes just weeks before the start of the 2026 NFL season.

The NFL said it is aware of the matter and will review the circumstances under the league's personal conduct policy, which applies to team owners as well as players and other league personnel. No additional NFL discipline has been announced.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has characterized the matter as personal and said it has not affected the team's football operations.

York's Role With the 49ers

York has been involved in the 49ers' leadership since taking over day-to-day control of the organization in 2008. He became the team's principal owner in 2024 after acquiring additional ownership from his family.

The 49ers organization has said the legal matter has been resolved and declined to provide additional comment.
