Emmy Rossum Says Ex-Husband Justin Siegel Gave Her Marriage Ultimatum

Emmy Rossum is opening up about her first marriage, revealing that she felt pressured into tying the knot with music producer Justin Siegel after only a few months of dating.

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Rossum recalled that as she prepared to leave for six months of filming on Dragonball: Evolution in Mexico, Siegel presented what she described as an ultimatum.

The ultimatum

According to Rossum, Siegel told her that he wasn't sure their relationship would survive the long-distance separation and suggested they either:

  • Get married, or

  • End the relationship.

Rossum said that after experiencing previous heartbreaks, her fear of abandonment influenced her decision to marry.

A simple wedding

She described the ceremony as extremely low-key, saying she wore a white turtleneck she already owned and now looks back on the experience with hindsight.

Rossum admitted she ignored her own instincts at the time, saying she now recognizes she didn't have to make that choice.

The marriage ended quickly

Rossum said that while she was filming in Mexico, Siegel never came to visit her. Once filming wrapped and they reunited, she realized they were not compatible.

Siegel filed for divorce in September 2009, ending the short-lived marriage.

Bottom line

Emmy Rossum says fear of losing the relationship led her to marry Justin Siegel after what she describes as an ultimatum. Looking back, she says she ignored warning signs and quickly realized they "weren't a match in any way" once they began married life.
